SERVICES:SYMPOSIUM —
14-15 MARCH 2002 Symposium
on assessment of trade in services
In
December 2001, the Council for Trade in Services tasked the
Secretariat with organizing a Symposium on Assessment of Trade in
Services. It was
intended to provide a forum for discussion and information exchange
among delegations and, in the context of the ongoing services round,
contribute to informed policy-making at national level. Most
presentations — by representatives of international organizations as
well as country experts — focused on growth and developmental
effects of services liberalization at national, regional and/or
sectoral level. They also highlighted the importance of sound domestic
policy frameworks and regulatory structures. The Symposium was held on
14 and 15 March 2002.
