This 24th thematic course on WTO dispute settlement, which took place at WTO headquarters in Geneva and was held in French, corresponds to a “level 2” training activity within the progressive learning strategy currently being implemented by the WTO Secretariat. It was organized by the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC), in collaboration with the Legal Affairs Division and the Secretariat of the Appellate Body.

The course was opened on 15 February 2010, and closed on 19 February, by the Director of the ITTC, Mr Hakim Ben Hammouda. Throughout the week, the participants attended interactive presentations, questions and answer sessions and completed practical group exercises, which covered various stages in the WTO dispute settlement process. In addition to attending the 18 February regular meeting of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body, participants also benefited from a session with the Advisory Centre on WTO Law, and a presentation on the current negotiations on the Dispute Settlement Understanding. A number of participants from least-developed and developing countries were financed by the WTO's regular budget for training activities in Geneva.

These courses are organized to increase understanding of the rules and procedures governing the settlement of disputes and other areas of WTO activity, in keeping with the WTO’s mandate.
